Between the holidays, projects at work and seasonal colds making the rounds, I haven't found the time to post any pictures for a while.

Here is a Cooper's Hawk that perched in my backyard for about 25 minutes today. We knew that some sort of hawk had been taking birds. Now we know what it is.

He can have all the English House Sparrows he wants, but I hope he leaves my nut hatches and woodpeckers alone!

Christmas is upon us!

No, not my house. But I enjoy taking pictures of area homes all decked out and in the holiday spirit.

A picture from yesterday. Bald Eagle pair.

Anne and I have been trying since May to find our own county's Bald Eagles. We caught a glimpse of them a couple fo times flying, but never managed to find the famed nest that you could see from the road! On Friday I asked a new coworker if she knew where they might be as she lives in that general area. Presto! We drove right to it! The pair of Bald Eagles are the on right of the picture while the nest is in a tree on the left.

I was shooting for a hawk in flight. But autofocus took over and I got this instead. I rather like it!

Annie and I drove over to Killdeer Plains yesterday to so some bird watching. We watched this hawk hunting over a grassy meadow. It circled back and forth and then would dive down into the grasses. Then it would come back up and circle some more.

Annie and I went to feed the geese at the pond today. Twice I spooked off this guy without even knowing he was there. Then again when I was trying to sneak a picture of a Belted Kingfisher. We got some half decent pictures of the heron before he took flight yet a third time. Then, as we were sitting in our car planning our route to go bird watching, he landed less than 20 feet away. It was almost as if he was trying to get our attention. The Great Blue Heron is one of Annie's totems, so we decided to give him our attention until he flew away.
