Jobert is an 11 year old Quaker Parrot that we adopted from a local rescue about two years ago. Though she is healthy, she always appears unhealthy because she developed a nasty habit of plucking her own feathers. It was explained to us that she began this when her leg was broken in an accident when she was 2 or 3 years old. The vet explained that the leg was never set and so healed badly. She most likely started plucking as a way to distract herself from the excruciating pain of her leg. Though the leg has long since mended, she continues to pluck. Oh well. We love her even if she's half naked at times.

But take care around that beak! Quakers are very territorial and tend to bond to a single person. In this case that person is my 17 year old daughter, Annie. As I am the most hated being on earth, I have been bitten a number of times. Jobert will act all sweet and lure me in for the bite. Then she won't let go until Annie pries her beak from my bleeding finger. Then the bird has the audacity to LAUGH!

Meet Ziggy Stardust.

Ziggy was born on December 22, 2004 in a litter of 4 guinea pig pups. At the ripe old age of 4, Ziggy and his only remaining brother Vincent, are positively ancient. Check out the fuzzy lips and shaggy nose. Ziggy Pig also bares carrot stains on his chin(s). He never met a carrot he didn't like.

Zig was kind enough to pose for this picture even though his brother kept nipping at his rump.

Andrea's Eyes

I took this picture of my granddaughter Andrea in November. You've already met her twin sister on New Year's Day. Andrea is autistic, so it is rare to get a good picture of her eyes. Even rarer still to have her looking at the camera. Andrea is making wonderful progress with therapy. Our hopes are high. In this picture, Andrea is enjoying some upside down fun with the help of her Auntie Annie.

The sun was just above the Davis-Bessie cooling tower. The yellow orange sun created a surreal nuclear effect. I'm not sure, but maybe I should have cropped out more of the water. Perhaps a panoramic style photo?

Andrea playing Rock Band drums with Auntie Ashley.

Whenever we get together and break out Rock Band, there's always a half hour or so before the three toddlers go off to bed. During this time, they all must participate. But this was the first time that Andrea seemed interested. So she was greatly encouraged.

Victor the Vulture. Victor is a permanent resident of a local wild life rehab center where my daughter volunteers. Victor is a likable bird. I held my camera up to the netting on his enclosure and focused up tight on his face.
